ABOUT US

A lot has changed in our lives since Patty and I and our two children drove the eight hours from Tallahassee, Florida for our annual trip to Maggie Valley. Patty and I had been coming to Maggie Valley every year since March of 1974.

It was on our visit in 1994 that we ran into Chuck Boyer, a REALTOR with Sunburst Realty. I asked Chuck if he knew of any RV Parks for sale in the area. Chuck told me he did not know of any parks for sale, but he said he knew of some land that was for sale and was perfect for an RV Park.

Patty and I and the kids followed Chuck out Jonathan Creek Rd. to an 11-acre rugged-looking horse pasture with a turn-of-the-century dairy barn bordered by a beautiful stretch of Jonathan Creek. It was love at first sight. We signed the purchase contract then and there on the hood of our Chevy Suburban.

Development and construction cost estimates were overwhelming. We needed a partner. On a trip to Central America, Gary Vorbeck and I were on the same flight but did not know each other and did not meet until the plane landed at our destination. We became fast friends with much in common.

Gary, his wife Linda, and 3 beautiful boys lived in Arcadia, Florida at the time and would travel to Tallahassee for FSU football games. As it turned out, Gary and I graduated from Florida State University the same year, 1974. On one of their treks to Tallahassee, Gary told me he was looking for something to invest in and did I know of anything. Boom! Hell yeah, I knew of something.

Within 2 weeks,  Gary and I were on a flight to North Carolina to see the property that would become Creekwood Farm RV Park. After touring the rugged 11-acre horse pasture, I also told Gary about a development my in-laws were doing on nearby Buck Mountain, just above Ghost Town. Since we had some time to kill before our flight back home, Gary said “I want to see Buck Mountain”. As we looked around Buck Mountain, I showed Gary two recently completed homes for sale.

Done Deal.

Gary said to me before leaving Maggie Valley on that first trip together, “I will do the RV park, but you have to buy one of the homes for sale and I will buy the other”. So now, not only were we building an RV Park together, we were buying homes.

Construction on The RV park began in early 1995 and we needed someone to oversee the development. His name was Dale Luscher. Dale had spent 35 years in the RV and mobile home manufacturing business all across the United States. He spent that next year and a half as foreman during the construction of the park until completion. We will always be indebted to Dale for his dedication and guidance. Dale passed away in 2018 at the age of 95.

We needed a name for our park. As is the case, we bounced around many names until Linda Vorbeck suggested Creekwood Farm, for the creek and the trees that lined it and farm for the old barn. Perfect! We had a name. Creekwood opened officially on July 1, 1996. We had one goal in mind and still to this day, to create the best RV Park in the country and to that end, we work along with an outstanding group of the most talented people (our beloved work campers) assembled to reach that goal.

Success is not a goal, it is a journey and we travel it every day. Our wish is that you come as a guest and leave as family, and that you and your family build everlasting memories for generations. Gary, Linda, Patty and I welcome you to Creekwood Farm. Enjoy!
